If you're like most gearheads, you remember the days when modifying your hot rod meant removing extra parts, cutting a little metal and hammering out some fresh curves. But, as time progresses, technology progresses, and what once existed as merely a backyard hobby has now grown into a hyper-competitive, multi-million dollar industry. Today, unless you have a decade and deep pockets, it takes a serious plan and skilled craftsmanship to even think about competing with the world's best street rods. And when it comes to planning and craftsmanship, it doesn't get much better than this all-steel Dearborn Deuce. A modern take on time-honored hot rod tradition, this slick little roadster is a super cool custom that'll fulfill your needs faster, and cheaper, than any project you've spent years idealizing!
STEEL A GLANCE
Built to be cruised and enjoyed to its fullest extent, this top-notch Ford was constructed on an excellent foundation. In the world of modern street rodding, it doesn't get much better than 850 pounds of Dearborn Deuce sheetmetal. Twice as heavy as most all-steel reproductions and, in fact, featuring a substructure that weighs as much as most competitors' entire bodies, every Dearborn Deuce is stamped, welded and sealed by the same Detroit entities that supply major OEM automakers. That level of precision results in a reliable and authentic custom that, in addition to requiring minimal paint prep, retains all its original lines, functional parts and structural integrity. It seems only natural, then, that this Deuce's staunch body displays smooth panels and a straight profile that would give any composite queen a serious run for its money. And, since a profile that nice deserves to be seen and celebrated, it wears decidedly regal Metallic Blue two-stage that's exalted by a tight cloth top and tasteful red and blue pinstripes.
At the front of that pigment, color-keyed frame horns hang a polished spreader beneath a polished grille, a Ford-branded shell and trick, dual-mode headlights. Behind that shell, a three-piece hood runs vertical louvers toward a short windshield that anchors a polished frame between polished mirrors. Those mirrors reflect shaved doors, subtle fenders and a shaved deck. And at the bottom of that deck, LED taillights illuminate a second polished spreader, a body-matched fuel tank and a “V8” branded fuel cap.
TRI THE POWER
Splay the car's hood and you'll find a reliable, 350 cubic inch Chevrolet small block that's been polished, rebuilt and fitted with storied Tri-power induction. Revs are created when polished and louvered air cleaners float wind into a spry Offenhauser intake that's topped by a trio of stainless-lined Rochester carburetors. At the perimeter of that intake, polished Edelbrock valve covers cap iron heads, which cap an iron, color-keyed block. Behind those heads, a familiar points distributor shoots spark through loomed MSD Super Conductor plug wires, which snake around coated block hugger headers. Billet pulleys spin a polished alternator opposite a polished AC compressor. At the front of those ancillaries, a polished expansion tank and giant puller fan dress a beefy aluminum radiator. And items like a polished dipstick, a Lokar throttle linkage and a coated fuel pump highlight the builder's astute attention to detail.
CRUISE WITH EASE
Under this sweet cruiser, a dressed and cooled 700R4 4-speed kicks a 9-inch Ford axle that's built with a posi-traction differential and big, 3.90 gears. That drivetrain pushes a 4-link rear-clip that's dampered with adjustable QA-1 coil-overs. Opposite those polished stilts, polished wishbones tilt polished Pete & Jakes shocks around a polished and drilled Drop Beam. That suspension rolls under a sturdy Dearborn Deuce chassis, which seats manual steering between manual disc and drum brakes. A high-octane soundtrack is provided by glasspack-style mufflers, which bark through stainless tailpipes. At the corners, painted Boyd Coddington blades spin 165R15 Nankangs in front of 285/70R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As. And cool detailing includes stainless lines, a polished horn, a polished filter cover and a quality Wilwood proportioning valve.
RIDE IN STYLE
Inside this awesome roadster, class is the name of the game as a tasteful leather cockpit crafts a stylish complement to the car's perennially pleasing paint. Pop the doors and you'll find a contoured bench that rides both firm and supportive between pleated side panels. Below those panels, tight carpet floats piped floor mats around a polished brake pedal, a polished spoon accelerator and a tall Lokar shifter that's founded in a body-matched boot. At the front of that rug, a sculpted dash centers clean VDO telemetry next to controls for Vintage Air conditioning, controls for fluid power windows and controls for Rockford Fosgate audio. And in front of the driver, a '40 Ford steering wheel laps a tilting column that's finished with modern Cruise Control and a MQQN knee-knocker tach.
Fully sorted and ready to roll, this awesome custom carries the kind of retro swagger every traditional enthusiast dreams about. From its timeless body to its comfortable cockpit, there simply aren't many cooler cars out there. Looking for an engaging cruiser that's an absolute blast to own? Come claim this impressive Ford Deuce!
